<em>Knocking</em> follows the life of a Slovak woman, Magda Bednarova, from her move to the capital, Bratislava, in 1938, to work at the travel bureau, to her rescue of her Jewish boyfriend during the Holocaust, to her marriage to Jan Fliml who rescued 200 Jewish people, to her own rescue by the remnants of the Jewish community when Jan is imprisoned for two years by the Communist government. It is a story of personal courage and the will to survive.
