A group of Jewish refugees attempts to escape Greece by sailing to Israel illegally. As they come ashore, all but one are captured. One woman, Batia, drowns. The irony is that while in Greece, Batia and her husband Gideon were granted a permit to emigrate, but they decide to remain with the group and help them escape. Now on trial, the group is asked to recount their story, but Gideon will not speak, and even when the group is deported back to Greece, Gideon goes with them.
